fanfic » it tastes like truth (the baby-sitters club, 1/1)

Title: it tastes like truth
Fandom: The Baby-sitters Club
Prompt: you lie so well that it tastes like truth.
Rating: PG
Pairing: Druscilla Porter/Sgt. Johnson
Words: 225.
Summary: They believed her when she told them there wasn't anything going on between her and Jim.
Notes: I was given the prompt on November of 2009. I wrote this sometime during 2010 and have sat on it ever since. AU for New Stoneybrook. Contains mentions of consentual step-father/step-daughter relationship and implies adultry.

They believed her when she told them there wasn't anything going on between her and Jim. At first she was sure it was because they believed such a thing was impossible. Why on earth would someone like him be interested in her and vice versa? She was young (at least in appearances, she had the soul of a person much older), he wasn't. She was unusual, he was conventional. There couldn't be an attraction. They had to just be seeing things. Denial was an interesting thing indeed.

It wasn't until later when she realized it was because she hardly ever lied. It seemed the best way to be believed when the occasional lie did come out was to be known to tell the truth. She really didn't believe in lying for the most part. What purpose did it really serve? The truth always came out. It was only in protecting him because things just might have started before they should have (she had been the one to make the first move, Dru could be very persuasive when she wanted to be) that she lied in the first place.

She thought about the other lies she could get away with saying. That they were the ones who gave her the idea to pursue him. They would believe her because they didn't have any reason not to.
